Obituary

Virgie Roe, 91, Tullahoma, TN, formerly of Clarksville, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at her residence. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Virgie Roe has been released to join the multitudes awaiting her in heaven, finally freed of a body tormented by dementia (DLB) and Parkinson's Disease. Virgie Burney Rye Roe, daughter of Mary Elizabeth (Burney) and William Henry Rye, lived from December 16, 1919 to December 29, 2010. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Maurice Roe Sr. and one brother Van Dillon Rye. Her brothers Henry Laverne (& Myrt) Rye, and Ray Trogden (& Gerry) Rye, both of Clarksville, survive. Virgie's children will miss her deeply: James Maurice Roe, Jr. Huntsville, AL; Michael Henry (& Betty Daniel) Roe, Crossville, TN; and Cynthia Jane Roe (& Scott Alan) Young, Tullahoma, TN. Her grandsons have been a source of special pride and grieve her passing also: Dillon Max Young and Dryden Alan Young. Virgie was born in Montgomery County, TN, in the farmhouse built by her grandparents and passed down to her parents, near Palmyra. She lived briefly in Detroit, Michigan during the depression years but otherwise lived in Montgomery County until 1958 when her husband was transferred by Southern Bell Telephone Co. to Nashille then Tullahoma, TN in 1959. Virgie graduated from Clarksville (TN) High School, married her sweetheart in 1940 and raised her children. Her sons were raised in Montgomery County where she as a Cub Scout leader and was active in the PTA, serving as secretary. In Tullahoma, she was an Asst Girl Scout Leader for several years in the 1960's. Virgie was a member of New Providence Baptist Church in Montgomery County, TN until she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church of Tullahoma in 1960. In later life she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tullahoma. She was active in all her churches, and demonstrated her beliefs through her kindness and guidance. She attended Motlow State Community College when it opened in 1968, and Shelbyville Vo-Tech School, and worked at Castner Knott's from its opening in Tullahoma in 1977 until her retirement in 1991. Virgie had many interests, including sewing, bird watching, botany, and she was an avid reader of many genres of literature.
