Our loving mother, Alice Meeks Clifton, age 71, formerly of Danville, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 while at Alamance Health Care of Burlington, NC. She fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was married to the late Charlie Clifton, who predeceased her in 1985. She always put her family first and spent her life making sure they were taken care of. She loved the lake and had moved there prior to needing assisted care.
Mrs. Clifton is survived by two sons: Chuck Clifton and friend Sharon of Sunrise, FL, and Bobby Clifton and his wife Shelia of Danville, VA; one daughter: Linda Aldridge and her husband Norman of Yanceyville, NC; six grandchildren: Christina Clifton Loving, Courtney Clifton, Amanda Hylton, Greg Clifton, Jennifer Levin, and Jill Murphy. She also leaves five great-grandchildren: Bre Z Loving, Matthew Hylton and Rebecca Clifton, Jacob Clifton, Alison Underwood, and William Murphy. She is also survived by one brother: James Meeks, and one sister: Lily Lakey; her stepfather, Doug Reynolds, along with a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her special kids and family at Rudd Ridge Family Care Home where she lived for almost five years prior to moving to Alamance Health Care.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her mother, Lorine Reynolds, her father, W. Gee Meeks, and her brother Warren Gee Meeks, Jr.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Rudd Ridge Family Care Home for loving Miss Alice and to Alamance Health Care for the care and support they gave her through her last days. She was truly a blessed lady to have received care from such dedicated and loving people.
The funeral service will be held at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bob Hillman. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 778 Fitch Road, Yanceyville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215, the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215, or to the charity of your choice.
