Obituary

BEVERLY: Miss Myra A. Lyons, 99, formerly of Parramatta Road and current resident of the Girdler House on Lothrop Street died Sunday, December 26, 2010.
Born in Lynn on April 15, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Earl B. and Anastasia (Murphy) Lyons. She grew up in Nashua and was a graduate of Nashua High School and Bryant & Stratton Secretarial School in Boston.
Myra was employed as an executive secretary at the former Boston Gas Company for thirty-two years.
An avid sports fan, she especially enjoyed bowling and playing golf. Myra was a life member of Wenham Golf Club and was Past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She served on the board of managers at the Girdler House and was a member of both the Lothrop Club and the Boston Gas Quarter Century Club. She also enjoyed volunteering for Hospice, Meals on Wheels and the Visiting Nurses Association.
She is survived by her cousin, Edward and his wife, Virginia Murphy of Swampscott and many dear friends. She was also predeceased by a brother, Gordon “Toby” Lyons.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Girdler House, 78 Lothrop St., Beverly, MA 01915.
