Edwin J. Haznar, 84, of New Bedford died peacefully at his home on Monday December 27, 2010. He was married to Louise M. (Pothier) Haznar for fifty-three years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Haznar leaves his daughter Mary L. Shea and her husband Jeffrey of Middletown, RI; and his sons, Edwin J. Haznar, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Mattapoisett and Aubrey Haznar of Quincy. "JoJo" as he was lovingly known by his family also leaves his four grandchildren, Jeffrey Shea, Jr., Matthew Shea, Rose and Anna Haznar. He was predeceased by his sisters, Wanda Driscoll, Stasia Green and Isabelle Wojnar.
Mr. Haznar was a Certified Public Accountant for more than five decades in New Bedford. He continued to practice his profession through his last days of his life.
He was born in New Bedford, the son of Jon and Mary Haznar and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. In addition, Mr. Haznar was a member of numerous civic and social organizations, including the Polish American Veterans Association, The Friends of Poland, and the Country Club of New Bedford. For many years he was associated with the Antassawamock Club in Mattapoisett where he enjoyed working outdoors and swimming at the beach. Mr. Haznar was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Boston University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 3-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Sister Rose House, P.O.
