WASHINGTON…Mildred Marie Strubhar of Lakeland, Florida, passed away at 1:20 p.m . Sunday, December 26, at Lutheran Hillside Village.
Mildred was born in Washington, Illinois on April 20, 1919 to Vernon I. and Ruth A. Strubhar. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Donald and Vernon, and one sister, Shirley.
She is survived by one sister, Joan Heiple of Peoria, sister-in-law and dear friend from childhood, Charlene Strubhar and sister-in law, Jackie Strubhar of Washington, one niece, Susan (Marshall) Neal of Columbia, South Carolina, and four nephews, Gregory (Cheryl), Timothy (Lila,) and Andrew (Lisa) Strubhar of Washington and Peter (Susan) Strubhar of Amherst, Virginia. Also surviving are 8 grand-nephews and 8 grand-nieces, 1 great-grand-nephew and 2 great-grand-nieces.
Mid’s life was one of service. She received her RN degree from Methodist Hospital in 1940. She joined the Army Air Corps and served as surgical nurse at Foster Airfield, Victoria, Texas, from 1941 through 1945. Upon her discharge as a 1st Lieutenant, she then worked in hospitals and for doctors in Chicago and Modesto, California. She received her degree in anesthesia from the Medical College in Richmond, Virginia. She then moved to Lakeland, Florida and retired in 1984 from the position of Chief Anesthetist of Lakeland General Hospital.
Mid’s passions were teaching the Bible, serving others, and golf. She excelled in all. Mid was a member of Shepherd Road Presbyterian Church in Lakeland and had served many years as a Sunday School teacher.
A memorial service will be held at the Rivers of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Park officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington at noon.
