Obituary

SPENCER; Joseph H. “Jack” Gagne 85 of Howe Village, Spencer died Friday, Dec. 24 at Radius Health Care Center in Southbridge.

He leaves his wife of 61 years Lillian B. (Sourdif) Gagne, a son John P. Gagne and his wife Christine of Spencer, two daughters Paula A. Letourneux and her husband Robert of Spencer and Joyce M. Hughes and her husband Michael of Auburn, a brother Louis “Pat” Gagne of Spencer, six grand children Marc Hughes and his wife Jessica of Charlton, Adam Hughes and Amanda Hughes of Auburn, James Letourneux and Joseph Letourneux of Spencer and Nicole Letourneux of Framingham, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Robert, Raymond, Henry and David Gagne and sisters Jeannette Desroches and Rita Roman.

Jack was a custodian for the Spencer School System before retiring in 1989. He previously was a foreman for area shoe manufacturing companies for most of his life.

He was born in Spencer, the son of Peter and Evelyn (Cote) Gagne. He later served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Gaudette-Kirk Post 138 American Legion and was Past Commander, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 118 and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church all in Spencer. Jack was an accomplished pool player and played in several area pool leagues. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes. Along with his wife, they went camping throughout New England over the years.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc.- Mass. Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, Ma. 02472.
