LOWELL—Roland J. Garneau, 80 years old, died Tuesday, December 23rd, at the Lowell General Hospital.
He was born in Lowell, on November 20, 1923, a son of the late Felix and Anna (Boudreau) Garneau, and was a graduate of California Schools.
Mr. Garneau served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Grayson. Upon his discharge, he was employed as an Activities Director by the Middlesex County Training School. Previously he had worked at Fletcher’s Quarry, in Westford. He was also employed for many years at Lynch’s Paint.
He was a member of the VFW, Walker Rogers Post, the Lowell Lodge of Elks and the American Legion, Vinal Square Post, #313.
Surviving him are his wife: Barbara (DePoucher) (MacIntyre) Garneau, of Lowell; a sister: Irene Delorme, of Lowell; two brothers and their wives: Raymond and Joan Garneau, of Lowell; and Robert and Buelah ‘Dee’ Garneau, of Port Richey, FL; a sister-in-law: Catherine Garneau, of NH; his step-children: Robert MacIntyre; Elizabeth, and her husband Joseph Teixeira; and Barbara, and her husband Leonard Hand; five step-grandchildren: Jessica Christakos, Keri Hand, Janet Hand, Cynthia Hand and Bobbie Lynn MacIntyre; three special godchildren: Felix Garneau, Jr., James Garneau and Donna Marion; also two step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late: Leo, Albert and Felix Garneau.
Friends may call from 2 until 5 PM on Sunday, December 28th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Monday morning, December 29th, at 10:30 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
