Alice Powers, 93, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, December 26, 2003, at Life Care Center, Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Sunday, December 29, 2003, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald with Rev. Tom Braziel officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Wilcox County, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday evening at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at the home of her niece, Mary Will Barentine, 850 Barentine Rd., Rochelle, Georgia.
Miss Powers was born March 4, 1910 in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late John W. and Harriett Hyde Powers and also preceded in death by three brothers, Noah Powers, Edgar Powers and Woodrow Powers and three sisters, Irene Rhodes, Kate Pope and Evelyn Wyatt. She moved to Fitzgerald after graduating in 1926 from Pineview High School in Wilcox County to become a caregiver for her family. Miss Powers was a former employee of Allen’s Grocery Store and Bernhardt’s Fruit Stand. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class in Fitzgerald. She was an avid fisherman.
