Obituary

WAYLAND: Dorothy Virginia Reed Blades (January 27, 1920 – December 23, 2010) of Wayland passed peacefully on December 23, 2010 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Natick. A resident of Wayland for 46 years, Dorothy was a longtime employee of the Town of Wayland, having worked in various administrative positions for both the Wayland School System and the Wayland Police Department. Well known around town for her warm and caring personality, Dorothy was a dedicated volunteer, having twice been recognized as Service Volunteer of the Year by the State of Massachusetts. She was a founder and board member of both F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service Helping) and the Wayland Depot. She was also an active volunteer with many other Wayland service organizations, including Parmenter Health Services, Wayside Hospice, Friends of the Library and Peace Lutheran Church.
A loving and beautiful wife and mother, Dorothy was married for 50 years to Richard Glynn Blades, who passed in 2001. Dorothy is survived by her son Richard S. Blades, her daughter Deborah Blades, her two granddaughters Amelia Giacalone and Lea Giacalone and her great-grandson Jackson Bryson.
