Sarah Sloan Rogers, 88, former resident of Fitzgerald, GA, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in Gainesville, Florida at E.T. York Haven Hospice Care Center, surrounded by her family. She was born in Pelham, Georgia, January 4, 1922, to Jesse R. Sloan and Lois Johnson Sloan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Banks B. Rogers; brother, Jess Sloan; and granddaughter, Laura Knight. Sarah is survived by her daughters, Lavonne Pickens (Bill) of Greensboro, NC, Lynda Knight (Jim) of Gainesville, FL; and Ramona Howard (Ken) of Newborn, GA, son, Richard Rogers (Becky) of Fitzgerald, GA; as well as twelve grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Sarah grew up in Pelham and Camilla, Ga, & graduated from Georgia State College for Women. She taught Home Economics in Live Oak, Fla. In 1956, she and her family moved to Fitzgerald where she and her husband owned and operated Gold Leaf Warehouse for many years. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church, located at 201 W. Central Ave., Fitzgerald, Georgia 31750. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends, from 1-2pm at the church, prior to the service which will begin at 2:00.
