Bill Phillips died on Saturday morning December 18, 2010 at home in North Truro with his life partner John Gordon and his beloved Sparky and Brady at his bedside, He was born in Boynton Beach, FL on April 20, 1958. He spent his childhood years in Thompson, GA and graduated from Washington – Wilkes High School. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England and Post graduate studies at the University of GA in Athens, GA and at the Goethe Institute in Atlanta. For many years he worked for R.H. Macy’s Inc. where he became a Senior Executive menswear buyer. In 1986 he founded Primoda Ltd., a small company where he designed and marketed silk neckwear in Como, Italy for sale in US Markets. In 1991 he joined Waranco – Christian Dior USA, Men’s neckwear division where he remained until 1994. He then rejoined Randa Corporation as executive Vice President of International Sales and Marketing.
In early 2001, his failing health forced him to retire from the business world that he loved. He had bee treated for cancer prior to his retirement beginning in 1998. Initially he intended for his Cape residence to be a weekend getaway but it soon became his permanent home, moving from Connecticut to Truro. When his health would permit, he spent his time volunteering with different charitable causes on the cape and abroad. He enjoyed classical music, literature and painting.
In 2002 Bill’s fortunes changed for the better when he met and befriended John Gordon, a nearby neighbor and former guest house owner. Over the months that followed they recognized that they shared various mutual interests, especially their love of dogs. Together they “rescued” 3 wonderful dogs. Bill wanted everyone to know that as his disease progressed and treatment became more aggressive, he was always able to find in John the unwavering support he needed. He lived each day to the fullest and his appreciation for life helped him enjoy the time he had on earth. His services will be private.
