Irene K. (Carney) Metro, 85, of New Bedford died Saturday December 18, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Metro.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Arthur and Maria (Bowden) Carney, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Metro was formerly employed as a bookkeeper at UMass Dartmouth until her retirement.
She enjoyed dancing, music, children, and family.
Survivors include a son, Alan J. Metro and his wife Carol of Acushnet; a daughter, Nancy M. Ferus and her husband Paul of New Bedford; three grandchildren, James Ferus, Leslie Metro, and Sara Metro.
She was the sister of the late Arnold Carney and Albert Chappell.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
