TAUNTON – Antonio Goncalves, husband of Maria V. (Frias) Goncalves, died at his Taunton home on Dec. 18, 2010.
He was 77.
Born and raised in Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio Silveira and Angelina (Rocha) Goncalves.
He served in the Portuguese Army before moving to the Taunton area many years ago.
Mr. Goncalves worked for Dyecraftsman, and for the former New England Concrete Pipe Co. of Dedham, moving back to Faial in 1987.
He returned to Taunton three months ago.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mr. Goncalves enjoyed fishing, gardening and making wine with his homegrown grapes.
Besides his wife of Taunton, he leaves a son, Antonio M. Goncalves of Taunton; a brother, Carlos Gonsalves of Taunton; a sister, Maria Manuela Silva of Taunton; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three nieces; three nephews and an aunt.
He was also the father of the late Filomena Maria Goncalves.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday, Dec. 22nd at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 21st from 5 to 8 p.m.
