GOTCH - Mr. John Joseph Gotch, Jr. 95, of Yulee, FL passed away Sunday morning, December 19, 2010 at Quality Health in Fernandina Beach, FL. Mr. Gotch was born May 21, 1915 in Glenville, CT, moved to Yulee 15 years ago from Savannah, GA and had previously lived in Greenwich, CT. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U. S. Navy. He spent 18 months in combat and flew on more than 30 combat reconnaissance missions. Mr. Gotch had a long and noteworthy career as a professional photographer. He worked as a freelance photographer for several publications and wire services, including the New York Times, the Associated Press and International News Service. He has photographed celebrities, religious leader, U.S. presidents; Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, the Bush family, Victor Borge, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, to name a few. Mr. Gotch also maintained one of the finest studios in the Greenwich CT area and has photographed hundreds couples’ weddings and their children. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 52 years, Helen Elizabeth Magnus Gotch who passed away in 1993 and his brothers, Lawrence Gotch and James Gotch. Survivors include five sons, John J. Gotch, III (Barbara) of Old Greenwich, CT, Robert J. Gotch of Oakland Park, FL, Francis Peter Gotch (Margaret) of Poulsbo, WA, Patrick J. Gotch of Greenwich, CT, and Joseph K. Gotch (Laurie) of Norwalk, CT; two daughters, Susan Elizabeth Gotch of Savannah, GA and Katherine Lourdes (Gotch) Gronager and her husband, Holmer Paul Gronager of Fernandina Beach, FL; a sister in law, Beverly H. Gotch and three grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating the life of this beloved and interesting man will be held at a later date.
