MULVEY, JULIA (BARRETT) – Of Jamaica Plain formerly of Furnish, Lettermullen, Co. Galway, on December 16, 2010. After a brave battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Mulvey, Sr. Adored mother of Martin and his wife Karen, of Washington, Mary Mulvey Jacobson of Jamaica Plain and her late husband Carl, Matthias and his wife, Rosemary of Weymouth, Helen Connors and her husband, John of Brookline, Theresa Bundy of South Carolina, Thomas and his wife Jacki, of West Roxbury, Margaret Kelly and her husband , Christopher, of Dedham and the late Rita. Devoted grandmother of Michele Connors, Michael and Patrick Mulvey, Christopher and Elizabeth Mulvey, Connor and Meaghan Mulvey, Aidan and Quinn Kelly and Great Grandmother of Matthias Mulvey. Devoted sister of Nora Folan of Co. Galway, Sr. Mary Immaculata of Co. Offlay, Joseph of Florida and the late John and Matthias of England, Thomas of Quincy, Mary Scullion, Mairtin, Maggie Conroy, Mark, Bridget, Coleman, Michael and Patrick, all of Co. Galway. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Julia was Past President of St. Thomas Aquinas Women’s Club, was an accomplished knitter, even selling her Irish sweaters to FAO Schwartz in Manhattan. She loved good music, especially Irish, and made the best Irish bread this side of Galway. She was extremely generous with her time and talents, volunteering for charitable and civic causes while always remaining behind the scenes. She never wanted recognition and gave of herself freely to help anyone in need. Julia will always be loved and remembered as a nurturing parent, grandmother, sister, and a faithful and loyal friend. Julia reveled in life’s joys, accepted its challenges with grace, dignity and strength, and led the family with her amazing example. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury on Monday December 20, 2010 at 8:45 am followed by a funeral mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 97 South Street, Jamaica Plain at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life in the Gormley Funeral Home, Sunday 4-8 pm. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.
