STOWE, JOAN passed away December 15 after a brief illness. She was a resident of Beacon Hill, Boston, MA, since 1939; residing at the River House, 145 Pickney St., since 1965. Born in Buffalo, NY in 1921, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John G. Stowe of Buffalo, & the late Margherita R. Stowe of Cambridge. Miss Stowe was a disabled American Veteran. In 1943, she joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Woman's Army Corps for three years. She worked for several years in a private industry, (Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson & Abbot, and Bache & Company,) followed by assignments working for the federal government with the U.S. Treasury Department and HUD, all in Boston, retiring in 1976. Miss Stowe is survived by a daughter, Ms. Susan A. Brinckerhoff of Norwalk, CT, Mr. Locke Ellis, a first cousin of Melbourne, FL, & a step-sister, Mrs. Louis E. (Mary Jane) Nelson, also of Melbourne.
