Obituary

DANVERS- Alice F. (Lawson) Houghton, 88, wife of the late Ralph W. Houghton, of Danvers, died Tuesday morning, December 23, 2003 at the Hunt Nursing & Retirement Home, Danvers, following a long illness.

Born and raised in Essex, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Elsie (Tompkins) Lawson and was a graduate of Essex High School in 1934. She moved from Essex to Salem in 1935, and then to Danvers in 1947.

Prior to her retirement in the mid 1980's she was employed at the Salem Bleachery, The Pequot Mills, both is Salem, Vulcan Electric in Danvers, the Lynn Credit Bureau and the Salem Telephone Answering Service of Salem.

She had a love for animals, owning several pets and contributing to many local animal shelters over the years.

Mrs Houghton is survived by one daughter, Linda Lawson Sherry and her husband Jay Sherry of Danvers. She was the sister of the late William F. Lawson and Margaret Davis.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, December 26, 2003 at 11 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visitation is from 10 to 11 am, prior to the service. Burial is in Spring Street, Cemetery, Essex.
