GLOUCESTER: Shirley L. (Hill) Curley, 77, died early Sunday morning, December 12, 2010 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was the longtime companion of Martin Courtney.
Born in Lanesville on May 6, 1933, she was the daughter of Martha (Niemi) Hill of Rockport and the late Ezra Hill. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1951.
Shirley was employed as a waitress at the former Surf Restaurant in Magnolia for twenty-five years. She had also worked as a bartender at various local establishments, including Lobsta Land.
She was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was also a past president of the Gloucester Emblem Club No. 339, and a member of the Women of the Moose and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Doucette-Linguard VFW Post #1624 and the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion.
A people person with a warm engaging personality, she was easy to talk with. Always one to look for the best in people, she made friends quickly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her mother and Marty, she is survived by her children, Robert, III, husband of Carol Wilson, Donna (Wilson), wife of Michael Kecyk, Sandra (Wilson), wife of John Misuraca, Scott C., husband of Jo-Ann Curley, John M., Jr., husband of Michelle Curley; stepsons, Timothy and Robert Curley; fourteen grandchildren, Britt, wife of Jason, Taylor, wife of Jake, Jordyn, Nikolas, Alexander, Mikey, Brian, husband of Amanda, Rachel, Scott, Jr., Trevor, John M., III, Justin, Christian and TJ; nine great-grandchildren, Riley, Logan, Gavin, Presley, Kai, Rocco, MJ, Cassidy and Tabatha. She is also survived by her brother, Edwin Hill; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Ernest Becker and Doris and Bruce Nelson; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. She was also predeceased by her son, Barry Wilson; her husband, John M. “Jack” Curley, in April of 1977; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Allen Jacobson; and her former spouse, Robert Wilson.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 15th in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lanesville at 10 a.m. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
