Obituary

Agnes Cooper Carlyle Hadden died peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at North Hill, Needham, four weeks after her 96th birthday.

Raised in West Roxbury and educated at the Girls Latin School in Boston, Agnes worked her way through Colby College during the depression. She married Frederick C. Hadden, MD, in 1938. They settled in Natick, where they raised five children and enjoyed activities like ballroom dancing, Shakespeare Club, gardening, and camping vacations in the U.S. and Canada. Agnes was active and took leadership roles in several church and community groups. Fred was taken from her by cancer in 1977. Agnes moved to Wayland and then to North Hill, becoming an active member and president of the Resident Council. A longtime member of the American Needlework Guild, she contributed to the restoration of the Wayside Inn in Sudbury and leaves a legacy of beautiful works. Agnes' lifelong love and dedication to her family and community are treasured by her extended family.

She is survived by her sister Margaret Angell of Plymouth; her sons Carlyle Frederick of Doylestown, Pa., Wilbur Crane of Washington, DC, Stephen Clow of Littleton, Mass., and Robert Brown of Hinsdale, Mass.; her daughter Celinda Moncrieff Hadden Rother of Frederick, Md.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the First Congregational Church of Natick, 2 East Central St., Natick, Mass. The Reverend Victoria Alford Guest will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the First Congregational Church of Natick, or the American Heart Association .
