FRAMINGHAM: Edward F. “Ed” Carr, 85, died peacefully at his residence on Monday, December 13, 2010.
He was born in Syracuse, NY on October 19, 1925.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Wendy (Stevenson) Carr of Framingham. He was the devoted father of Elizabeth Adams of Shutesbury, MA; Esther Paris of Cumberland, RI and Patrick Carr of Rochester, MN. He was also the loving father of the late William and Michael Carr. Loving step-father of Gary Pease of Natick, MA and Allison Baginski of Charlotte, VT. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. Cherished brother of two sisters, Kay Clark of Camillus, NY and Norah Depperman of DeWitt NY and the late Mary Carr. Ed is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Ed has been a resident of Framingham for over 40 years and previously resided in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and McGill University with degrees in Electrical Engineering. He served his country proudly during World War II as a commissioned officer with the United States Navy. He worked for the Raytheon Company as a missile systems engineer for 34 years before retiring. Besides his family and all the neighborhood children that he entertained and fed, he cherished the game of bridge. He enjoyed teaching bridge at homes, churches, and at many surrounding senior centers. He ran duplicate bridge games for most of his life. He was a Master Gardener and enjoyed gardening and watching the birds in his backyard. He and his wife Wendy volunteered for 15 years on a suicide prevention hotline; joined the Peace Corps in 1993 and soon after volunteered at many of the National Parks for 14 years.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm followed by his funeral service at 3:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd. (Off Rte 30),Wayland.
