LCpl Michael Erick Geary, 20, of Derry, NH died December 8, 2010 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan while serving with Fox Company 2/9 US Marine Corp. Michael was born in Malden, MA on August 6, 1990, son of Timothy and Nancy M. (Buiting) Geary. He had resided in Derry for the past 11 years, formerly living in Brighton, MA. Michael was a 2009 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry where he played football his Freshman year. He received his black belt in Karate at the age of 14 and competed locally. Michael enjoyed target shooting, airsoft and paintball games and playing football with friends.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy M. (Buiting) Geary of Derry, his father, Timothy Geary of Derry, his paternal grandmother, Beverly Geary of Londonderry, NH, also many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Charles Geary and by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Louise Buiting.
Calling hours were held on Thursday December 16, 2010 from 4 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial with military honors followed in the NH State Veteran's Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
