Westport– Walter E. Grundy, Sr., 74, of Old County Road, Westport died at home on December 22, 2003 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Gladys E. (Wordell) Grundy.
He was born in Fall River son of the late Elmer R. and Elizabeth B. (Pettey) Grundy and was a lifelong resident of Westport. He was a graduate of Westport High School, class of 1947. Subsequent to this, he was employed by Grundy Lumber Supply Company, Westport until 1949 at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1949 to 1952. Upon his discharge from the Air Force he secured employment with R.C.A. Service Company in New Jersey from 1952 thru 1976 working in Managerial Electronic Support Contracts in numerous states. This included eleven years at the Naval Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range in Puerto Rico. After leaving R.C.A. Service Company an opportunity arose to co-own Grundy Lumber Supply Company with his son. During this period, major and significant additions and improvements were accomplished. He retired in 2000.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son: Walter E. Grundy, Jr. of Westport; 2 brothers: Albert A. Grundy and Raymond E. Grundy both of Westport; a sister: Florence Lees of Westport; 3 grandsons: Matthew Grundy, Richard Grundy and Jacob Grundy all of Westport; and several nieces & nephews.

A graveside service Friday, December 26, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
