SHREWSBURY: James F. Cleary, II, 76 of Jordan Rd., Shrewsbury, died Saturday, Dec. 11 in St. Mary’s Health Care Center in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, R. Virginia (McDonald) Cleary, a son James F. Cleary, III of Edgartown, three daughters Ann M. Johnson of Quincy, Marybeth Foote and her husband Kevin of Shrewsbury and Rosanne M. Cleary of Quincy, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother John A. Cleary in 1986.
Mr. Cleary was a school teacher in the Boston Public School System before retiring in 1975. He then was a substitute teacher in the Worcester Schools until 3 years ago.
Born in Holyoke, he was the son of James F. and Rita M. (Connors) Cleary, Sr. and lived in Milford, Dorchester, Worcester and Leicester before moving here in 1999. He graduated from St. Mary’s in Milford in 1952; St. Anselm’s College in Manchester, N.H. in 1956 and completed post graduate work at the Univ. of Mass. in Amherst. He served his country in the U.S. Army during peacetime duty. He was a former member of St. Pius X Church in Leicester and a member of St. Anne’s in Shrewsbury.
He enjoyed all sports, especially the Miami Dolphins.
His funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the Church. Calling hours at the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are Tuesday from 4 to 6p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. of Eastern Mass., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, Ma. 02472.
