Elaine G. (Simmons) Shurtleff, 80 of Tiverton, RI passed away in her home on December 7, 2010. She was wife of the late Richard E. Shurtleff.
Born in Fall River on May 3, 1930, daughter of the late Milton B. and Grace A. (Seabury) Simmons, she was a lifelong resident of Tiverton. A 1948 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, she worked for SJB Federal Credit Union in Tiverton until her retirement.
A much loved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, she is survived by her daughters Laurie E. Danley and husband Thomas R. (Tiverton), Rhonda G. Collins (Haverstraw, NY), Lola S. Gray (formerly of Tiverton) and by her son Donald B. Collins (formerly of Westport). Grandchildren Sean T. Danley and wife Dawn (Tiverton), Steven R. Danley and wife Tara J. (Little Compton), Erin K., Caitlin A., Kerry L., Molly M. Walsh (NY State) and Milton Gray (formerly of Tiverton). Great-Grandchildren Ethan Danley (Tiverton), Scott Danley (Portsmouth, RI) and Kira Danley (Little Compton).
Elaine also leaves behind her lifelong friend Paula Peloso, various step-children, step-grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was mother of the late Nancy V. Collins and sister of the late Malcolm and Donald Simmons.
Mom, Grandma, G.G.; you will always be remembered as an inspiration for your honesty, independence, strength, devotion to animals and, yeah, your stubbornness, too. You will be missed.
Per her wishes, Elaine will be cremated with a private interment at the convenience of the family.
