BROOKSVILLE, FL: Helene E. (Morse) Salomaki, 84, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in the Ledgewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beverly following an extended illness. It was her wish to return home to Beverly, where her heart always remained. She was the wife of David W. Salomaki.
Born in Beverly on October 12, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Theresa E. (Daker) Morse. She was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1944 and the Salem Commercial School. She had resided in the Beverly area for many years before moving to Brooksville, Florida ten years ago.
Helene was employed as the purchasing agent at the former Aulson Tanning, later the Speco Company for seventeen years before retiring in 1976. She loved to travel and enjoyed cooking, knitting and reading. She wouldn’t travel without her special knife and grater for cooking. She was a great lady with an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life right to the very end.
In addition to her husband of nearly thirty-four years, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John K. and Paula (Themes) Powers of Beverly; three grandchildren, Erinn, Brendan and Keelinn Powers all of Beverly; three stepchildren, David and his wife, Mary Salomaki of Kennett Square, PA and their children, Brian and Eric, Lynne and her husband, Stanley Jablonski of Ellenton, FL and their children, Jeremy and Julie, and Karin and her husband, Frederick Martel of Columbia City, IN and their children, Daniel, Anya and Jonathan; two sisters, Patricia DeFazio of Essex and Kathryn and her husband Louis Turlo of Beverly; a brother, Frank and his wife, Nancy Morse of Brooksville, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, James Morse.
Her funeral services will be privately held in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the ALS Foundation for Life, P.O. Box 96, Natick, MA 01760.
