William G. Gallagher of Riverside, died Saturday at his home on Druid Lane. The cause was congestive heart failure. Gallagher had a successful 40-year career in the municipal bond business. He was a marketing officer at Vance Sanders/Massachusetts Investors Trust, Chemical Bank and MBIA. He retired in 1997. Gallagher was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in New Rochelle, N.Y. He attended Iona Preparatory School and after graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Gallagher completed Naval Flight School and then attended College of the Holy Cross. After his graduation he began his marketing career. Gallagher was an active member of Riverside Yacht Club and the Retired Men's Association of Greenwich. He spent his winters in Naples, Fla., where he enjoyed sitting on a few favorite beachside benches while watching the sunlight bounce off the Gulf of Mexico.
Gallagher is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth (Scully); his daughter, Laura Gallagher McLean, of New York City; and his son, Gregory, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, at 12 p.m., at St. Catherine of Siena, 4 Riverside Ave., in Riverside. Donations may be made to Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y., or St. Catherine of Siena in Riverside.
