New Bedford – John H. “Jack” Greene, 70, of Marion died at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital on December 20, 2003 after a long illness. He was the husband of Vasana (Wongkeaw) Greene.
Mr. Greene was born in Cambridge, MA son of the late Carroll and Florence (Campbell) Greene and resided in Marion for the past 33 years. John served his country during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He retired with an honorable discharge after 22 years of service in 1974. John went on to work for the Northrop Grumman Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as an aircraft mechanic. He remained there for a number of years before acquiring a position at Sippican Inc. in Marion, MA as a production line mechanic. His time spent at Sippican was an enjoyable time in which he created a lasting impression on his fellow co-workers and friends. With his great humor and kind heart, each day was made a little easier for all who knew him. To all those who met him, his humor and spirit will not be forgotten. He later retired as a production line mechanic from Sippican Inc. in 1997.
In 2001 he was diagnosed with lung cancer, where he amazed the doctors with his strength and personality. Constantly defying the overwhelming odds, John put up a brave fight. After a long battle with cancer, John passed away peacefully in his sleep.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 6 sons: Mark H. Greene of Marion, Jamil A. Greene of Bedford, MA, Somchi M. Greene of FL, Joel E. Greene of Marion, John H. Greene, Jr. of AZ and Mario Greene of AZ; 4 daughters: Denise Greene, Jacqueline Greene, Gretchen Greene and Patricia Greene all of AZ; 2 brothers: Donald Greene and Carroll Greene, Jr. both of Cambridge, MA; a sister: Corrine Mcree of Cambridge, MA; several grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Louis Greene.
At the request of the family, services will be private.
