Obituary

William Lewis Miles, age 81, of Water Valley, MS died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Yalobusha County Nursing Home. He was born in 1929 to Lonnie and Allie Sprouse Miles, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In order to join the Army with his brother, Clenton, Lewis changed the spelling of his last name to Miles. He was retired from employment with Yalobusha County, and enjoyed fishing, watching old westerns, and playing the guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Mr. Miles was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2010 from 12 Noon until 2 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley with a graveside service at Jumper’s Chapel in Yalobusha County immediately following the visitation. Bro. Michael Callahan will preside over the service, and pallbearers will be Travis Inman, David Kehoe, Tony Miles, Perry Joe Miles, Robert Barnes, and Henry Dale Fly.

Mr. Miles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Ming Miles, of Water Valley, MS; three daughters, Janet Rieder (Tony) of Terry, MS, Carolyn Barrett (Jerry) of Pearl, MS, and Brenda Collette (Jim) of Ridgeland, MS; one son, John “Billy” (Amy) Myles of Pearl, MS; two sisters, Orabell Dawkins of Coffeeville, MS and Ruby Kehoe of Water Valley, MS; one brother, Richard Miles of Water Valley, MS; three grandchildren, Michelle Bulman, Mike Simmons, Jr., and Blake Myles; and one great grandchild, Lauren Simmons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kenny Myles; two sisters, Maybell Hall and Martha McDonald; and two brothers, Clenton Myles and Robert Myles.
