John J. Garfi, 77, a longtime resident of Methuen died on Saturday November 27, 2010 at Brighton House, Brighton, MA. John was born and raised in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He was a graduate of Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas and attended Emerson College, Boston where He received his Masters Degree in Special Education-Speech Pathology.He went on to graduate Cum Laude from Lowell University receiving a Masters in Education. Before retirement, he worked as a speech pathologist with The Woburn, MA School System. He served with The US Army.
His family members include his former wife, Lorraine Garfi and his daughter, Joelle Garfi-Vos and her husband, David Vos of Brookline, MA. He leaves a brother, Alfred Garfi of Scotia, NY and 2 sisters, Jane DeSilva of Scotia, NY and Joanna Graro of Oklahoma. John has 2 grandchildren, Sophia Celeste Vos and Talia Jeanne Vos and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Celeste Garfi.
Calling hours will be on Thursday December 2, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. followed by funeral services at 4:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
