HAVERHILL: Marie Y. Glidden, 96, died Monday, November 29, 2010 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. She was the wife of the late William F. Glidden who died in 1992.
Born in St. Anne De La Pocatiere, Quebec Canada on April 6, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Grace (Belanger) Bourgelais. She had attended Epping public schools and has resided in Merrimac for many years before moving to Haverhill in 1980.
Marie was employed for fifty years as a fancy stitcher in the shoe manufacturing industry including the Marian Shoe Manufacturing Company. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a strong and independent woman.
She is survived by two sons, Patrick C. and his wife, Judy Bourgelais and Frederick N. Bourgelais all of Merrimac; four grandsons, Patrick Bourgelais of Derry, NH, Philip Bourgelais of Danvers, Paul Bourgelais of Hopkinton, NH and Peter Bourgelais of Philips, ME; a step-granddaughter, Crissy Hadley of Merrimac; three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sister, Juliet Masse.
Her funeral service will be privately held in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830.
