Mary A. Smith, 58, of Derry, NH, died Sunday November 28, 2010 with her daughters by her side. She was born in Boston, MA on November 6, 1952, daughter of the late Henry J. and Mary (Tobin) Smith. She grew up in Dorchester, MA, and had been a resident of Londonderry, NH for many years. Mary worked as a successful furniture sales rep. for Broyhill Furniture for close to 20 years. Mary enjoyed camping throughout New England and loved traveling, especially to Disney. A sweet, caring and compassionate mother and grandmother, to her family she was a "storybook grandmother with a magical toy closet." She was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two daughters; Melissa Alger and her husband Robert of Derry, Katie Wilhelm and her husband Daniel of Derry, four grandchildren; Mary Kate Alger, Julia Patricia Alger, Toby Houghtaling and Joseph Wilhelm; eight brothers and sisters; Henry C. Smith of West Bridgewater, MA, Florence Dion of Rockland, MA, Peter Smith of Randolph, MA, Kevin Smith of Plymouth, MA, Ayn Downing of Monticello, ME, Constance Smith of Plymouth, MA, Michael Smith of Westwood, MA, and Janet Smith of Enfield, CT. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a devoted friend; Ray Leary of Danville, NH. She was predeceased by two brothers; Cornelius and Terrence Smith.
Visiting hours were held from 4-8pm on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM, in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry.
