March 28, 1936 - November 6, 2010


Betty Louise Powell Strohmaier, age 74 of Oxford, PA, passed away on Saturday November 6, 2010 at the Hospice of Lancaster after a brief illness. She was the wife of George Strohmaier with whom she celebrated 15 years of marriage. Born in Aston, WV she was the daughter of the late James Kenneth and Miriam Blake Powell.

Betty had lived in Apple Grove, WV prior to coming to Pennsylvania. She was employed for 29 years by Citizens Bank of West Virginia. She worked in Agriculture and actively driving for the Amish for five years part time. Betty was a longtime participant of Mt. Vernon Mennonite Church, member and treasure of the Grenn Thumb Garden Club of Oxford, PA and a member of the Bridge Club of American Legion Post 194 of Rising Sun, Md. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, her two favorite dogs, Neffi and Sonny, Baking and cooking(and giving most of it away), card playing and was an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan. Betty enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother to George's children and familes.

In addition to her husband George, Betty is survived by her children, two sons, George and wife Susan of Richfield, OH, Robert of Wayne, NJ, Daughter, Leslie and husband Jim Gliem of Newark, DE, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two brothers, Lawrence Powell and his wife Delores of Mercer, PA, Charles Eugene Powell and his wife Nancy of West Virginia, Brothers-in-law, Christian Strohmaier and Gottlieb Strohmaier both of Oxford, PA and many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews in West Virginia.
