Obituary

AUBURN-Frederick J. Levitsky, 86, of Auburn formerly of Worcester, died Sunday, November 28th in the Saint Francis Home. His wife of 59 years, Helena C. (Scanlon) Levitsky died in 2007. He leaves a son, Frederick C. Levitsky and his wife Marcia A. of East Lyme, CT; a daughter, Mary Jo wife of F. Myles Moran of Lincoln, NH; and 5 grandchildren, Melissa Davis, Jason and Brian Levitsky and Molly and Erin Moran.; and a great grandson, Ryan Davis.
He was born in New London, CT, the son of Frederick W. and Ida (Cushing) Levitsky. Frederick graduated from Bulkeley School in New London, CT and received his bachelors and master degrees from WPI where he taught electrical engineering for 7 years. He had a great interest in music, playing the violin and drums in school orchestra and band and in a non-professional concert band for several years after school. Mr. Levitsky was a member of North American Martyrs Church and several technical committees. He served as associate editor for an 800 page technical handbook and helped write several electrical standards on a committee of the National Bureau of Standards. He was a well known philatelist. Frederick was a founding member of the Vatican Philatelic Society in 1953 and served in various offices, including president for many years. He exhibited stamps competitively in numerous sponsored national and international exhibitions receiving several gold awards. He was a lifelong member of the American Philatelic Society. He worked for the former New England Electric Systems as an electrical engineer for 38 years, retiring in 1989. After retiring, he was an active member of the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale serving in all elected offices, including president and continued as a trip leader for a number of years.
The funeral is Saturday, December 4th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 9:00 AM in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, December 3rd, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
