Jennie “Jean” (Schifano) Galka, a 48-year resident of Winchester, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Nov. 27th. She was the beloved wife for 60 years of Francis A. Galka of Winchester. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rosa (Bartoli) Schifano. Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a lot of fun to be around. She enjoyed cooking for her family and passing down family traditions. A talented seamstress, Mrs. Galka created many beautiful garments and home décor throughout the years. She enjoyed the beach and spent many summers with her family in York Beach and Dennis. Jean had a strong faith in God and was a devoted, long-time member of St. Mary’s Parish in Winchester, where she served as a member of the Mother’s Club and the Sodality.
In addition to her husband, Francis, Jean leaves behind her daughter Jeanne Marie and her husband David of Winchester. She was also the dear sister of the late Grace MacNeil, Joseph and Ross Schifano, and is further survived by her grandchildren Christina and Joseph. Her Funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wed., December. 1st at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tues. from 4-8PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
