Michael Saponara, 67, of Pawcatuck, CT, recently of Newport, RI, died at home on Sunday, December 14, 2003.
He was born on February 5, 1936 in Hartford, CT, where he was raised. He was the son of the Anthony (Elia) and Angela (Bianca) Saponara.
Mr. Saponara is survived by his wife of 48 years Julie M. (Borichewsky) Saponara of Pawcatuck and sons Michael Alexander Saponara of Pawcatuck and Christopher A. Saponara and daughter-in-law Nancy Dunne of Telluride, CO. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Hall of Wethersfield, CT, Josephine and Ted Denmark of Ithaca, NY, and Rose (Papillo) and Fran Coleman of Simsbury, CT, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Lucy (Rondinone) Saponara and Antoinette Phee.
Mr. Saponara was the sole proprietor for the Newport Bootery One Plus One for 15 years, later opening and operating One Plus One Antiques and Collectibles in the same location. He was a man of many interests, his greatest being writing and poetry and had moved to his new home to finish his books on numerology and genealogy, writing under the pen name of Aran Opus.
With the help of his family and hospice caregivers, Mr. Saponara was able to fulfill his wish to spend his final days at home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice of South Eastern Connecticut, 179 Gallivan Lane, P.O. Box 902, Uncasville, CT 06382-0902.
The Dinoto Funeral Home of Mystic, CT handled the private arrangements. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
