LEICESTER; Richard J. Spaulding 100, formerly of 1075 Main St., Leicester, died Friday Nov. 26 at Masonic Health Center in Charlton after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Nina E. (Taylor) Spaulding who died in 1979. He leaves his son Lawrence A. Spaulding, Sr. and his wife Lynda of Spring Hill, Fl., three grandchildren Richard J. Spaulding and his wife Donna of Leicester, Lawrence A. Spaulding, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Rochdale and Heidi L. Ferraro and her husband Todd of Dayville, Ct., eight great grandchildren Richard J., III, Michael, Tyler, Ethan, Rileigh and Ainsleigh Spaulding and Pasquale and Isabella Ferraro, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Theresa Bradford of Westfield.
Mr. Spaulding was a superintendent and plant manager for Wilcox, Crittenden Corp. in Middlebury, Ct. before retiring in 1965. Previously he held the same position at U.S. Steel & Wire in Worcester where he worked for over 25 years.
Born in Springfield, he was the son of Marvin and Margaret (Johnson) Spaulding and has lived here since 1950. He graduated from Greenfield High School and Tri State Univ. in Angola, Ind. He was a former member of the Republican Town Committee in Leicester, and was active at onetime with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Leicester. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Leicester.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m. in the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester. Burial will be private in Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, Ma. Calling hours are Monday from 5 to 7p.m.
