Obituary

Virginia Ann Halligan, 84, formerly of 7 Spicer Avenue, Noank, died Wednesday at Fairview Nursing Home in Groton.

She was born on April 23, 1919 in New York City, New York, the daughter of Victor and Jennie Larson.

She graduated from Willimantic State Teacher’s College and taught at the former Colonel Ledyard School and Waterford Country School. She was a member of Noank Baptist Church and was a past RTM member of Groton. She worked for many years at Sheffield Tube.

Mrs. Halligan was married on October 19, 1940 to the late Charles T. Halligan. She is survived by three sons, Charles Halligan of Groton, Robert T. Halligan of Quaker Hill and Martin B. Halligan of Carter, Arkansas; by a daughter Kathleen V. Niece of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Elsie Espeland of Elgin, IL; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a daughter Margaret A. Crouch.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 2-4pm. The service will be private and burial will be in Noank Valley Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Noank Baptist Church, 18 Cathedral Heights, Noank or Fairview, 235 Lestertown Road, Groton, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
