James J. McLaughlin, Sr., 89, of Mansfield passed away on Wednesday November 24, 2010 at the Quincy Medical Center in Quincy. He was the beloved husband of the late Filomena N. (Ragno) McLaughlin who died on December 8, 2001.
Born in Foxboro, MA on March 30, 1921 he was a son of the late Patrick and Annie (Duffy) McLaughlin.
Jim grew up in Foxboro and was educated in Foxboro public schools. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
A retired firefighter, Mr. McLaughlin worked for the Town of Mansfield Fire Department for 33 years before retiring in 1985. Jim was also a talented painter and wallpaper hanger and had made his home in Mansfield for the past 63 years.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, he was also a member of the Mansfield Firefighters Union Local 1820. Jim enjoyed attending horse racing events at Plainridge Racing in Plainville and held a special place in his heart for his faithful dog “Mattie”
He is survived by his devoted children Marie Blackader and her husband Richard of St. Paul, Minnesota, Karen A. Adams of Mansfield, James J. Mclaughlin, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Mansfield and the late Patrick P. McLaughlin. He was the brother of the late Thomas McLaughlin, John McLaughlin, Mary Houlihan, Elizabeth Cardinute and Margaret Cinelli. Mr. McLaughlin is also survived by his loving grandchildren Shannon Adams of Mansfield, Matt McLaughlin of Mansfield, Brian Blackader of Germany and Mike McLaughlin of Mansfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral , to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday November 29th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday November 28th from 2-5 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
