GLOUCESTER: Kent R. Davis, 70, of 81 Dennison Street died Tuesday morning, November 23, 2010 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the husband of Donna L. (Levie) Davis. They had shared forty years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on August 21, 1940, he was the son of Evelyn A. (Cross) Davis of Gloucester and the late John B. Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Goose Cove and a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1958.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, he served in the Seabees during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was a recipient of the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
Kent worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years for his father’s business, the John B. Davis Excavating Company. He then was employed as a foreman for the former Thermet, Inc. He was last employed at Americold Logistics for twenty years, having retired in 2001 as a district engineer.
He loved being out on the water as a sports fisherman. He was especially proud of his first boat, the Maverick, designed by Phil Bolger, which he worked with Herb Montgomery to build. He enjoyed riding his horse, J.B., for many years and his most recent pastime was woodworking. He was also longtime member of The Tyrian-Ashler-Acacia Lodge A.F. & A.M.
A loving and devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and brother, he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah “Sally” and Ned Viands of Wolfeboro, NH and Ellen and Matthew Evans of Cincinnati, OH; four grandchildren, Kinsey and Mari Evans and Bradan and Katharine Viands; his brother and two sisters-in-law, Jack and Maria Davis and Jane A. Levie.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday morning in the Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held privately in the Mt. Adnah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or the American Lung Assoc., 460 Totton Pond Rd., Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1991.
