Dorothy L. (Freeman) Houghton, 94, of Provincetown died Sunday morning November 14, 2010 surrounded by her family at Seashore Point in Provincetown. Born in Lancaster, PA on March 25, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Charles M. and Bessie (Lowery) Freeman. Dorothy grew up in Lancaster County and lived in Lancaster City where she retired as an office worker from the former Hubley Manufacturing Co. Prior to moving to Provincetown in 1998, she vacationed on Cape Cod regularly beginning in the mid '60s. She enjoyed books, animals, and nature and she avidly followed numerous sports and the news of the day. Fresh air and a good cup of coffee were her simple pleasures. Her family was her pride and joy.
Besides her daughter Ruth L. Groff and her spouse Nancy K. Dooley of Provincetown, she is survived by her 2 granddaughters, Heather L. Wailes and her husband John C. of Otter River, MA and Melissa G. Mooney and her husband Kevin A. of Boston; her great granddaughter Rachelle C. Wailes; by her niece and Goddaughter Marilyn M. Doster of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; a brother, Raymond H. Freeman of PA and two sisters, Kathryn Hollinger of PA and Anna Mary Royer of NC.
