John Jerome McGonigle, M.D., 82, of Mattapoisett passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Margaret Connolly McGonigle.
John was born in Boston on April 12, 1928 to John and Kathryn McGonigle. A longtime resident of Mattapoisett, John practiced dermatology in New Bedford and Mattapoisett.
A 1950 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, John received his medical degree from the University of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Myer in Virginia in 1947. An avid sailor, he loved baseball, the Cape Cod League, and Mattapoisett's Crescent Beach.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; five children; James, Stephen, Daniel, Kara, and Patrick and his wife Jennifer; and his brother Paul. John was also the proud grandfather to five girls, Mercedes, Georgia, Zoe, Eliza and Maeve.
He was predeceased by his sister, Jean.
