NATICK: Goldie E. (Hall) Clifford, 84, died peacefully in the care and comfort of her family following a brief illness on Monday, November 22, 2010.
She was born in Unity, Maine on February 7, 1926 the daughter of the late Etta (Lyons) Hall and Frederick Hall. She was the step-daughter of the late Ellsworth Marr.
Goldie is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years Ronald W. Clifford of Framingham formerly of Natick. She was the loving mother of Barry W. Clifford and his wife Rose of Natick and Beth E. Clifford and her fiancé Dennis Connolly of Oakton, Virginia. Cherished grandmother of Mark Green of Hartford, CT, Christopher Green of Oakton, Maeve Clifford and Owen Clifford both of Natick.
Goldie spent her formative years in Norway, Maine and graduated from Norway High School with the Class of 1943. She attended secretarial school in Portland, Maine and began her career as a secretary with C.B. Cummings Co. of Norway, Maine. She has been a resident of Natick for over 40 years and previously resided in Millis for several years. For many years she was the Office Manager for the Natick Racquet Club and retired after several years as the Office Manager at Region West in Newton.
She and her husband Ron were members of the Square Riggers of Wellesley and loved to square dance. She was the Past President of the Square Riggers. They were the recipients of the lifetime achievement award, known as the Yankee Clipper Award, for their efforts and support of the square dance community. While residing in Natick they were active with the First Congregational Church in Natick. In her earlier years, Goldie spent many hours as an active member of the PTA in Natick for her children. She also served the Town of Natick as a Town Meeting member for many years. She loved to travel with her husband and children and will be remembered for her devotion to her family as they were the center of her life.
Visitations will be held in Friday, November 26, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd. (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church, 2 East Central St, (Rte 135), Natick Center with the Rev. Virginia Guest officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 1:30 pm in the Clifford family lot in Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in her memory be sent to the American Lung Assoc. of Middlesex County, POB 265, Burlington, MA 01803.
