Mrs. Glenda Ellen Hall Riddle, age 72, wife of Donald C. Riddle, Sr. of Pilot Mountain passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.Mrs. Riddle was born in Surry County on August 4, 1938 to the late Joseph Glenn and Tincy Cooke Hall.Glenda attended Westfield High School and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College. Since she was a military wife she taught school in Texas, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina, retiring from the Surry County School System at Westfield School. She loved her school children and always strived to bring out the best in each one, especially in reading. Being a generous and thoughtful person, she was always thinking of others and willing to share her many talents and skills. She loved crafts, crocheting, quilting, and was an exceptional cook, being well known for her homemade sourdough bread. She was a former member of the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary; a member of Westfield Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir; and a devoted member and treasurer of the VFW Auxiliary, Pilot Mountain Post 9436.Mrs. Riddle is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Trish Riddle of Winston-Salem, Donnie and Kim Riddle of Mt. Airy; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ben Walker of Westfield; six grandchildren, Joseph and Sharon Riddle, Stacy and Kyle Riddle, Rachel and Caleb Walker; and sisters, Sandra Martin of Mt. Airy, Faye Frye of Stoneville, NC, and Alda Wilmoth of Appling, GA and also several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Westfield Baptist Church at 3:30 P.M with Rev. Joel Stephens and Rev. Dale Riddle officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 6-8PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Sandra Martin.A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Glenda would have appreciated memorials to be made to Operation Christmas Child at Westfield Baptist Church or donations of books to the Library at Westfield Baptist Church, 6713 Westfield Road Westfield, NC 27053.Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain (www.coxneedham.com) is assisting the Riddle family.
