Douglas W. "Gump" Collins, Sr., 65 of Derry, NH died Saturday November 20, 2010 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry. Mr. Collins was born in Lowell, MA on January 30, 1945, son of the late William and Catherine (Macphail) Collins. He was raised and educated in Lowell, and had resided in Derry for more than 50 years. Mr. Collins was a US Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was known around New England as a gifted stone and tile designer and installer. His 48 years of loving devotion to his wife set a positive role model for his children and to others who knew him. In addition to spending time with his wife and family, he also loved to cruise around local lakes and ponds in his boat.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda (Indoccio) Collins of Derry, three sons, Douglas Collins, Jr. of Hampton, NH, Corey Collins and his wife Katie of Woodlands, TX, and Shane Collins of Derry, eight grandchildren, Sarah, Tyler, Colby, Cortney, Christian, Alyssa, Liam and Lauren, his brother, Robert Collins of Manchester, NH, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
