Obituary

James J. Ryan of West Roxbury, formerly of South Boston passed away on November 19, 2010. He was 94 years old.

Born in Boston, James was a proud US Army Veteran of World War II. His first experience in an airplane was when he flew over China, Burma and India, during the war. After the war, James worked as a postal clerk at Boston's South Postal Annex for nearly 40 years. Following his retirement, James attended many college classes at Boston University, UMass-Boston and other local schools. James enjoyed spending time with family and taking trips, whether to Filene's Basement followed by Mass at the Arch Street Church, or to Ireland and Hawaii.

James was the dear and devoted husband of the late Julia (Bennett). Loving father of Mary Ellen Dastur and her husband Homi of Dedham. Beloved grandfather “Papa” of Michelle Julia Dastur. Dear brother of Mary E. Myette of Winchester, Helen McHugh of Weymouth and the late Margaret Ryan, Agnes Mace, John Ryan, Andrew “Gus” Ryan, William Ryan, Joseph Ryan and Alice Ryan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

James' Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Theresa of Avila Church on November 23, 2010.
