Joel Plummer, 77, Cunningham, TN, died Wednesday , November 17, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at First Asssembly of God with Dr. John David Laida and Rev. Jimmy Terry officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born April 20, 1933 in Montgomery County son of the late Robert Lewis Plummer and Mattie B. Davis Plummer Batson. Mr. Plummer held many positions in public service. He was Sheriff of Montgomery County, a County Trustee, Montgomery County Executive 1982-1993, and Tennesse Commissioner of Public Safety. Currently he served as an Elder and church administrator for Clarksville International Church. He was a 32 degree Mason, Shriner with Al Menah Shrine Temple, Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, and the Tennessee Sheriffs Association. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Korean conflict. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Scott Plummer; son, Greg Plummer; brother, Bailey Plummer (Sarah); sister, Norma Alexander (Alex); nieces and nephews, Kim Drye (Scott), Kevin Plummer (Kristen), and Kris Smith. Pallbearers will be Kevin Plummer, Gary Alexander, Scott Drye, Robert Wormsley, Robert Fielding, Mark Fogarty, and Ralph Hardy. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former county commissioners, current and former Montgomery County sheriff deputies, current and former Tennessee Highway Patrol, Mayor Carolyn Bowers, Mayor Johnny Piper, former Mayor Don Trotter, former county executive Doug Weiland, Sheriff Norman Lewis, former Sheriffs Paul Neblett and Billy Smith, EMA director Steve Jones, current and former Montgomery County officials, Neal and Rob Bateman, and Evans Harvill. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Service, 130 S. First Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
