Mowyer Calvin Stump, 93, formerly of Liberty, NC, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Randolph Health & Rehab Center, Asheboro, NC where he had been a resident since January 6, 2010. Born April 4, 1917, in Calloway, Virginia, he was the son of the late John William Stump and Maggie Stump. He was married to Hester Aherron Stump who predeceased him.
Mr. Stump lived most of his life in the Danville area prior to living the last few years in Liberty, NC. He had worked for Dan River Mills and also farmed. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Eva Ann Lancaster of New London, NC and Barbara Jane Hobbs and husband Robert Henry of Sneads Ferry, NC; Eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Leonard Glenn Stump; three sisters and five brothers.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church with military honors by American Legion Post # 29 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
