Obituary

TAUNTON – Edith I. (Petrie) Mendes, wife of Frank W. Mendes, died at Golden Living Center-Oak Hill in Middleboro on November 17, 2010.
She was 91.
Born in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Meuarld D. and Helen M. (Friese) Petrie.
Educated in Scituate schools and a former resident of Brockton, Mrs. Mendes was a homemaker for much of her adult life.
She also ran the former Mendes Dress Shop for a short time before retiring in 1985.
An award winning cook, and an avid gardener, she enjoyed sewing, camping and fishing.
Besides her husband of Taunton, she leaves a son, Stephen D. Madden of Plymouth; three daughters, Patricia J. Sweeney of Brockton, Kathleen A. Curran of Scituate and Carolyn J. Rannacher of Berkley, a step-son, Frank W. Mendes, Jr. of Berkley; a step-daughter, Evelyn Patrick of Taunton; a brother, David Petrie of Portland, ME; a sister, Joyce Capobianco of Centerville; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the wife of the late William Madden and the mother of the late Michael D. Madden.
Funeral Services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Nov. 20th at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 19th from 5 to 8 p.m.
