Obituary

Domingo M. "Dom" "Lobo" Santos, 75, of New Bedford died December 15, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the husband of the late Candida (Grace) Santos, and son of the late Manuel and Adeline (Penha) Santos.

Mr. Santos was born in Norwich, Connecticut, and had lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Santos served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, during which time he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Hyman, U.S.S. Beatty, U.S.S. Warrington, U.S.S. Huntington, U.S.S. Wrangel and U.S.S. Bauer, and was a recipient of the European Occupation Medal. He was later employed at the Quincy Shipyard and Contential Screw before working at Morse Twist Drill until his retirement.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Fort Phoenix Post 2892 in Fairhaven, and the Cape Verdean American Retirees. He enjoyed travel and spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

He will be missed deeply.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Laura Blake of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Gail A. Santos , Donna M. Britto and her husband Robert, and Cindy M. Santos, all of New Bedford; 4 brothers, Joseph Santos of Taftville, CT, and Antonio Santos, Abel Santos and Matthew Santos, all of Norwich, CT.; 2 sisters, Libania Rose of Sterling, CT, and Priscilla Mallette of Royalston, MA; 4 grandchildren, Marc A. Ramos, Alysha L. Britto and Robert Britto, II, all of New Bedford, and Victoria Lynn Sylvia of Providence, RI; his brothers-in-law, Antone "Toi" Grace and Daniel Rose; his sisters-in-law, Alzira Andrews and Angela Rozario; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the grandfather of the late Niomi L. Britto, and brother of the late Edwin Santos, Marcelino Santos, Julio Santos and Elizabeth Ann Santos.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordThursday, December 18th at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Wednesday, December 17th from 6-9 PM.

Interment Rural Cemetery.
