Henry W. Smialkowski, 87, of Mansfield formerly of Maplewood, NJ passed away on Tuesday November 16, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen C. (Jones) Smialkowski.
Born in Newark, New Jersey on July 14, 1923, he was a son of the late Ludwig and Marcella (Himiak) Smialkowski. He grew up and was educated in Newark.
During WWII, he proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force, saw over sea’s action and was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Sergeant.
A retired Operating Engineer, Mr. Smialkowski worked for over 10 years at the East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey before retiring. He was also the former owner of the Jersey Coast Television Service in Irvington, NJ and the former co-owner of Smiley’s Tavern in Newark, NJ
Henry was a member of the J. Walter Jonkoski Civic Association in Irvington, NJ, the Brick Township VFW Post # 8867 in Brick, NJ and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68.
An avid saltwater fisherman, Mr. Smialkowski made his home in Mansfield for the past 4 years vand was a former longtime resident of Maplewood, NJ.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Patricia A. Daly and her husband James T. of Mansfield. The brother of Richard Smialkowski of Maplewood, NJ and the late Thaddeus and Irene Smialkowski, he is also survived by his loving grandsons Christopher Ryan Daly and Patrick James Daly both of Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday November 22nd at 11:00 A.M. in the Church of the Visitation, Brick, NJ. Burial will follow in the Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, NJ
